But they are facing increasing levels of habitat loss due to deforestation, land commercialization, and aggressive competition by invasive bird species for the same nesting sites. For a small backyard, mounting two bird houses 1.5 to 6 meters apart will allow two different species to nest in them peacefully. For larger properties, you can create a bluebird trail of any size by mounting nestboxes about 90 meters apart, in singles or in pairs. Would any bird house do? Not quite!
